K-Pop Dance Class at 1Million Dance Studio

Our special 3-day K-Culture trip kicked off with something totally out of my comfort zone: a K-Pop dance class! Yeah, me. A person who can barely keep a beat. 

ITZY "WANNABE" Dance Practice

The destination was the legendary 1Million Dance Studio. Its instructors and choreographers are behind some of the most iconic moves you see on stage. I’ve watched so many of ITZY’s dance practice videos filmed here so getting to visit the same place that ITZY uses was such a thrill! I knew this was going to be the biggest challenge of the trip.

It started with the warm-up. I thought it was supposed to be easy. Nope! Even the stretching and basic moves were challenging for my non-dancer body. I was genuinely sweating just five minutes in. It’s intense, but it definitely gets you ready (or maybe just terrified) for the actual routine.

We were taught j-hope's 'Killin' It Girl', the choreography was incredibly difficult for a complete beginner. I was constantly a beat behind, trying to figure out which leg goes where. But our instructor, who was a lovely lady, was the absolute best! She was so patient and encouraging throughout the entire class. She had this calm demeanor and would gently teach the steps over and over. Her kindness truly made me feel comfortable trying my best, even though my "best" looked exactly like my no-skill level, haha! Seriously, big thanks to her for her endless patience. After learning the full section, it was time for the final video shoot. It was messy, but it was incredibly fun and an unforgettable way to experience K-Pop culture firsthand.
